Mel,

It's the spring of '02. I've been out of the Dilbert Cube for six months. I've come to grips with the fact that the #1 skill I need at this point in my career is copywriting.

Why? Cuz my current skills are not cutting the mustard.

At the time John Carlton was offering his help for a sizable sum of money. I was reasonably sure he could push me over the hump. I was not overflowing with extra cash by any means. I knew had to make my biz work NOW.

My hand was shaking when I wrote the check.

I wrote it anyway.

Oh, and that was only the beginning of the fun! For the next few months he busted my chops. "You need to take your inner salesman out for a walk once in a while, Perry," he'd write. He'd throw in a nasty right hook just for good measure.

Little by little, out of the grit and chaos, my true inner writer and salesman started to emerge.

Thirteen years later, copywriting is still a great skill to have…but it’s not the greatest.

We are now in the age of the killer offer.

I don’t care how good you are at word-smithing…if your offer sucks, nobody will be able write you out of it.

You’ll be stuck wondering…

  • Why is my professionally-written sales page bombing?
  • Why am I spending more and more on Facebook and Google ads and getting less?
  • Why are my customers sleep-walking through life?
  • Why doesn’t my offer “dog whistle” through all the inane jibber-jabber on social media?
  • Why is my competition cutting off my fingers one knuckle at time?

Because today you need more than salesmanship. You need a killer offer.

You need a bullet-proof USP.

You need a DSP, a definitive sales proposition

Maybe you even need Bryan “USP” Todd to bust your chops until you know (and your prospects know) that you’ve got one.

Class starts soon. You know what you need to do.

Carpe diem,
