Publisher Bonnier, Flingo partner to make smart TV apps
Could Internet-enabled television apps be the next iteration of magazine publishing? It looks like Bonnier thinks so. The publisher of major consumer titles has partnered with Flingo to create a smart TV app for each of its magazines that will offer "videos, images and archival content."

Gigya rolls out privacy seal for sites with social log-ins
Social sign-in is convenient for audiences and beneficial for websites, but sometimes at the expense of user privacy. As a solution, Gigya is launching a SocialPrivacy Certification Seal for websites offering social sign-in options. So what does such a seal entail? "To obtain a seal, publishers must promise to refrain from selling user social data, posting to social feeds without permission, engage in social data-based email marketing campaigns without permission, and sending private messages to users' friends without permission."

Even iconic titles go digital eventually. The Sporting News is the most iconic American sports news outlet, but after 126 years in print, it will now be a digital product online and in iPad and Android apps. The title is being smart about its assets, though, promising that "its yearbooks for baseball, NFL football, college football and fantasy leagues will still find their way to newsstands."
