Thoughts on AI and the Future of Marketing (do you agree?)

Bringing people together will never go obsolete – no matter where technology goes. The marketing job AI took (or is about to take) from you? You never liked it anyway.  Computers don't eliminate jobs. They create jobs. New industries and professions. How many people work in the IT industry? How many people telecommute? The well of human desires is bottomless. As soon as we had all the world's music for $10 a month, we wanted old-school, limited-edition vinyl and $1000 concert experiences. Nobody plowing a field in 1850 could imagine drone operators or webmasters or social media managers. If AI takes those jobs, we can't yet imagine what new jobs will emerge... but they will come. Humans have souls. AI does not. We have the divine spark. AI does not. Life has desires… and near-death and out of body experiences.  We mourn and experience awe and we CELEBRATE!  AI does not. Deep Blue didn't look forward to becoming the #1 chess champion and it didn't celebrate afterward. We do not serve technology. Technology serves us. Richard and I have been feverishly discussing AI. Richard said:   Perry, you are absolutely on the money: "as AI gets smarter, YOU get more human."    This is the single key point I must underline. I go further and say, AI is not really different from the trends in IT over the past 80 or indeed 250 years of the industrial revolution.    The Luddites were wrong in the early 1800s, and anyone who really fears IT is going to dehumanize us or lead to mass unemployment has zero historical perspective or common sense.    Au contraire. Computers and AI are our slaves, not our masters.     What matters is what humans can uniquely do, which is exercise imagination, create new ideas and products, make good investment decisions, and persuade other humans in creating a bigger bolder future.    When Richard speaks, I listen.    And so should you.    At my Roundtable meeting on January 25th, we were digging into ChatGPT, Bard, Perplexity, Claude and the rest.    At one point, Chris said, "Your employees will not be writing prompts or learning to use AI. Most people will be used BY artificial intelligence. Just like the internet. Just like Google. Just like Facebook. Most people decided to be used BY these technologies."    Steven Bowman said, "Everyone in this room is in the top 1%. He didn’t mean to make her cry…
