How publishers manage social media
Publishers see social media as a big traffic driver, but the question remains how to organize for this. For some socially savvy publishers like a Mashable, this can mean a team of five-strong and a detailed strategy for matching pieces of content to the appropriate social platform. Yet for others, social is a much looser affair, with the burden ultimately falling on the content creators themselves to provide social juice.

The MPA has been working with analytics, production and fulfillment companies such as Zinio, Google, Adobe and CDS Global to develop software that would help track standardized metrics.

Google's online display ad business draws scrutiny

The inquiry is in the preliminary stages and may not expand into a larger probe.

Report: 25% of laptops will have touch screens by 2016
By 2015, one fifth of all laptops shipped across the world will have touch screens, and by 2016 that ratio will have risen to one in four. Considering under 10% of laptops this year are expected to be touch-sensitive, this is a significant trend. The data comes from the IHS, which has been looking at the growth of the devices.

Important: Consultant Training at 1PM CENTRAL today

Mel,

If you're a consultant or if you've ever considered adding consulting to your existing revenue model, I want to make sure that you know about the webinar that kicks off in just a few hours:

"Zero to Hero Case Study of a Consultant that Cracked the Code on How to Get Clients Quickly"

Here's the link for details and to register.

Register now

1305 people are registered for today's webinar - so it's a hot topic for consultants.

Plus - I'll send you case studies from successful consultants and training videos that will take your consulting business to the next level.

Here's the email invitation I sent out yesterday:

Lewis "failed" with his first entrepreneurial venture: software.

In fact he told my team, "I didn't even make enough progress to call it a failure."

He dusted off the rubble of that attempt and realized that in the process he had discovered his passion. And what's more, he could make way more applying his skills to an existing business than building his own from scratch. AND he sidestepped almost all of the obstacles that led to the failure of his software business.

But he needed his first client.

So what did he do?

Join my team on this live case study interview with Lewis as he explains his journey from "less than zero" (his words) to his first client, and then a system to quickly get more business and build up proof and authority.

Register now

You'll hear:

- How he went from no clients to reliably landing clients - quickly
- The mistakes he made along the way - the same mistakes you will be tempted to make
- How he turned his early success into a copy and paste system that he's now starting to outsource
- And his attitude and outlook to challenges and setbacks that propelled him forward

You don't want to miss this.

Register now

Sincerely,

Perry Marshall

How some publishers use Tumblr
Tumblr makes it easy for users to post quickly, and those posts can be just about anything, like a long text post, a photo with a link or a video. Because of Tumblr's versatility, many news organizations have joined and made Tumblr blogs to share their coverage or communicate with their audiences.

NYT reinvents the boring banner ad
Like all of publishing, the New York Times is feeling the pinch of the display advertising market, where pricing has been squeezed by automated buying and clickthrough rates have fallen to a fraction of a percent, giving rise to a swell in theoretically more engaging branded content. But in the Times' case, it's trying to breathe new life into the banner ad rather than abandon it.

Tool helps mobile sites act like native apps
Israeli developer MySiteApp has brought out a new service called Brow.si for making mobile websites behave like apps.
