Twitter: No aspirations on news
Twitter recently posted a job for a "head of news and journalism partnerships." Despite hysteria that Twitter was planning to build its own news operation, Twitter's Mark Luckie says that's not the case. "We're not writing stories. We're simply providing a platform for other people to do so," he told PBS MediaShift's Mark Glaser. Luckie admits, however, that Twitter is experimenting with news products.

AOL will now require its entire sales team to pass the IAB Digital Media Sales Certification exam. The exam tests team members' skills and knowledge for digital media advertising. According to AOL, the exam will keep its sales staff up to date with the ever-changing world of digital advertising. This marks the first widespread adoption of the test by a major company.

Hearst hires president for digital content
Hearst Magazines has hired Troy Young for a new position, president of digital media. Young will be responsible for content, revenue production and development strategies for Hearst Magazines' 26 online properties, which include Cosmopolitan.com, Elle.com and RealBeauty.com. The job's purview extends only to magazines' online brands, not to their print editions.

Ads stifle responsive-design adoption
Responsive design is a no-brainer on surface. Publishers get their content automatically arranged based on the screen viewed. Viewers get a seamless experience. The fly in the ointment is that many Web publishers are hesitant to fully embrace responsive design because it makes it hard to do ads right.

Are 'open interviews' a threat to journalism?
The way the media works hasn't changed much in some respects: journalists interview people about a topic and then select the quotes they want to use. Sometimes a reporter will cherry-pick an interview in a way that the source doesn't like, but what can they do about it? As it turns out, they can do quite a bit about it now, thanks to the democratization of publishing. How media outlets choose to respond to this phenomenon says a lot about their commitment to "open journalism" or transparency.

Google has added a few "highly-requested" features to Hangouts On Air. Live-stream users can now rewind during live broadcasts and playback recordings will be available immediately on YouTube. In addition to the rewind and instant replay features, Google promises higher quality video and the ability to start live broadcasts without refreshing the page.
