Mel,

In case you haven't noticed, trust in media is at an all-time low and demand for authenticity is stronger than ever.

We are experiencing a post-guru era. People are simply not as easily fooled by false scarcity and larger than life promises. You can't hide anymore. Authenticity and trust is the new authority.

When Bob and Brandon first talked me into filming my promotional materials, I had my doubts about whether or not it would work. Everything I have done in the past 20 years has been around the written word. I was out of my comfort zone.

Now I look forward to my filming days.

I know that in a few hours I can clarify and communicate what value of particular promotion brings to my members. Getting on camera has forced me to be clear and allow me to distill down into a captured conversation what could easily fill up pages and pages of written copy.

The best part about it is that it's become easy and fun. The more video I film the more comfortable I get communicating my value and really honing in on who I can help.

Getting plopped in front of a camera makes you clarify your value, who you can help, who you can't… all in real time.

Words on a page are one dimensional. Video is multi-dimensional.

By the simple fact that you have the cajones to get on camera and talk about the problems you solve for people inherently implies trust.

Today, Brandon and Bob are going to open the kimono and share what they've learned over the last several years getting clients in front of the camera and have them tell their story.

This is video content creation for mere mortals. No memorization, no scripts, no expensive equipment to buy. They are going to show real-world case studies and hard evidence to back up the effectiveness of using video.

P.S. Without fail, I schedule about 4 hours every other month to get in front of the camera and talk about what's coming up in Planet Perry. I now consider that time $1,000 per hour work. Extremely high leverage for me and my businesses.

I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing this...

I would have laughed out loud

Mel,

If you would have told me a few years ago that I would be standing in front of a camera to deliver my sales messages, I would have laughed out loud.

I'm a fan of the written word. I have built my businesses and sold millions of dollars of products and services through the power of copywriting. However, the process of getting a good sales letter done had always been somewhat daunting.

Here's what it looked like:

Step 1) Feel the daunting pressure for the need to write a sales letter for an upcoming promotion.

Step 2) Schedule 3-4 days in my basement, a local coffee shop, or cave to hide myself from humanity. Tell no one of my location.

Step 3) Pack laptop and snacks. Wave goodbye to family and friends. Pet dog another time before I walk out the door. Give up all hope of returning calls, emails or texts over the next few days. Reassure family I am still alive once or twice a day.

Step 4) Arrive at undisclosed location. Force brain to make words come out on page. Resist temptation to run away.

Step 5) Emerge 10lbs lighter and visibly exhausted from brain being taxed. Hand off sales letter to Fancher for his severe scrutiny. Rinse and repeat for each and every promotion.

But even so, when I was approached by 2 long-time Planet Perry members (Brandon Boyd and Bob Regnerus) a couple years ago about transferring my long-form sales letter chops into video? I was still resistant.

I had tried "VSLs" and they felt inauthentic and pitch-y...and didn't sell with my tribe.

And surely my members preferred scrolling through pages and pages of sales copy on their iPhone, right?

Well, now I schedule a standing, bi-monthly meeting with Brandon and Bob to film all my promotional videos for the coming months.

We craft sales messages in real time and they come out authentic and persuasive without me memorizing a word the night before. I spend a few hours at best with them and we're done. What would normally take combined weeks of the above copywriting process now takes a few hours.

Video has now become essential to my business. Words on a page are ONE dimensional. Video is MULTI dimensional. The written word only touches one modality of learning. Video touches all of them at once.

Video is an AMPLIFIER for your sales and marketing.

(And, by the way, I LOVE writing! If you hate writing (or know you shouldn't be doing it) then you REALLY must to see this.)

On Thursday, Mar 24th Brandon and Bob are going to share the simple process of how to create videos for your business…

  • Without having to go to film school
  • Without having to spend thousands on equipment
  • Without having to hire employees

They have developed a drop-dead simple and highly effective method for getting video done that anyone can follow.

They are going to show you the essential videos every business needs, how to film them easily and the strategies for getting out of your own way.

Why I’m still doing “Jazz improv”...and you should too

You can't get it by reading music off of pre-written charts

Mel,

I often use jazz analogies when talking about business and alchemy.

The brilliance that emerges when talented musicians improvise together is transcendent.

You can't get it by reading music off of pre-written charts.

It's alchemy.

And business alchemy does not come from reading business books, studying for MBA finals, or even getting advice from "gurus" like me.

Alchemy can't be taught, scripted or put into a process document.

Here's how I "alchemize" my videos…

Every couple months I spend about 4 hours in a studio session with Bob and Brandon of Feedstories.

We do a form of improvisational jazz to film promotional videos for our upcoming events and programs.

There are no scripts. Nothing to memorize. No tight sales letter 'blueprints' to read off. No outdated smarmy marketing hacks designed to squeeze out that last dollar from someone's credit card.

What happens is creation.

Resonance.

Alchemy.

Robust dialogue about solving real business problems. We slap ideas on the anvil and pound them with the hammers of truth, clarity and relevance until we have only precious metal left.

This all happens while the camera rolls.

On Thursday, Mar 24th Bob and Brandon will show you how to harness this alchemy to create your own videos.

How you can get "out of your head" and start creating videos that resonate with your prospects.

If you're not leveraging video in your business right now…or perhaps you've tried it and got less than awesome results…or perhaps can't stand seeing yourself on camera…this workshop is for you.

Mel,

Shark Tank has become one of the most popular TV shows in the last several years inspiring many hopeful entrepreneurs to compete for a spot in front of a handful of savvy investors. When the sharks talk, people listen.

In one episode, Kevin O'Leary (Mr. Wonderful) called "video storytelling" the most valuable skill you can hone.

I thought this was an extremely telling comment.

Out of ALL the disciplines he could have communicated as valuable … he chose video storytelling.

As someone who invests in hundreds of businesses and has a reputation of making successful businesses happen, Kevin said the most valuable skill was to be able to tell a compelling story using video.

If you are in the business of selling anything and particularly online, this is THE priority.

Bottom line: Video is your highest leverage selling tool… IF you know how to tell your story.

We're about to reintroduce a video training session we did with Bob and Brandon of Feedstories.

They will show you how to use video to build trust and attract your perfect customers.

More importantly, they offer a drop-dead-simple video creation methodology for mere mortals.

You can't afford to be camera shy anymore.

People need your solution.
