I have a theory I call, “The 4 Million Dollar Barrier”.
The theory states that somewhere around the $4 million revenue mark, an entrepreneur “hits the wall”.
For some, it happens before 4 million. For others (but not many) it happens after. But happen it will.
And here’s what “The Wall” looks like…
- You’re still too small to implement million dollar systems and enterprise software programs. But you’re too big to NOT have sophisticated systems in place. And the lack of systems stunts your growth.
- You’re constantly stomping out fires, playing whack-a-mole with staffing issues, and getting sucked into “drama triangles”, because you’re the ultimate (and only!) decision maker…for EVERYTHING.
- You never take a vacation. Or when you do, you’re so anxious and uptight that your spouse tells you to just pack up and go back home!
- You’re never quite sure where your next chunk of revenue is going to come from, so you have to pull rabbits out of your hat and quickly launch products just to meet payroll.
That used to be me. It still is to some extent, but to a far lesser extent than it was a few years ago. There’s a bright beacon of light at the end of my tunnel.
In fact, many times over the past couple of years I’ve been able to step away from my business. I’ve enjoyed extended family trips and on-a-whim jaunts…and returned to a stress-free work place.
That’s priceless.
And I owe a lot of that freedom to Rob Berkley and Victor Cheng of Entrepreneur to CEO.
