Mel,
My main marketing obsession lately is the 95/5 Problem. The fact that 5% of the advertising platforms control 95% of the traffic. AND they have Network Effect.
You can't live with them, and you can't live without them.
I've been talking to the sharpest marketing, traffic, and advertising people I know about this. And one thing that is already very clear is: There is no one magic pill for this problem.
One of the experts has what I believe is ONE of the solutions.
He showed me in depth how to rent email lists in any niche under any circumstances.
How to get people who have significant, engaged email audiences to mail for you.
This is NOT an affiliate model and is thus much easier to pull off. There is a very large (and in some cases almost limitless) amount of traffic available through this channel. I estimate that fewer than 5% of online marketers are doing this.
And for most online marketers' email is your lifeline. You need to know this.
It's 80/20…not 95/5.
There are advantages to 80/20…
Online marketers have gotten super comfy with "I log into an account interface, I start bidding on stuff, here comes the traffic. I can do it in my basement, and I don't have to talk to anybody."
They are addicted to the ease and anonymity.
But that is 95/5, which is inherently fragile. All 95/5 systems shatter and break. They either work or they don't. No middle ground.
But 80/20 systems are mostly analog and less fragile.
They don't usually shatter. They bend.
Attendees of my April "Summit with No Name" will hear all about the email strategy and all the other 80/20 solutions to the 95/5 Big Brother problem.
