Perry Marshall Minute: The Ice Church at the Bottom of the World

But what was it, really?

Mel,

As I looked out from the boat chugging through the slushy waters off the coast of Antarctica, I saw a long, flat iceberg. It was more than a half-mile long. Hard to tell exactly how long from my vantage point.

But at the farrrrrr end of this long flat berg, was a…

church?

I rubbed my eyes, squinted, pointed it out to others.

Of course, it wasn't a church. You don't build churches or anything else on icebergs. And if you construct even a temporary edifice, you're not going to put it at the VERY end of the berg where it meets the water!

But, as you'll see in the photo I'll reprint in the March New Renaissance Club newsletter, it sure looks like a church.

Everyone I've shown it to has said, "It's a church" or "it's a house."

But what was it, really?

Just part of the iceberg. The remarkable thing about Antarctica is the endlessly creative, beautiful, and yes, colorful patterns the wind, the water, and the sun carve into these ice sculptures.

If you've never been to Antarctica, you might think it's just boring white as far as the eye can see.

And maybe if you go in the dead of winter, it is! But when you go when I went (summer in Antarctica…23 hours of daylight)...you see a hundred and one shades of blue. Gloriously, awesomely, breathtakingly gorgeous.

I still get choked up thinking about it now several days later.

Why am I telling you this?

I'm still figuring that part out. And I'm sure I will be for days, weeks, months. And you'll hear more about it over that time, especially in the newsletter.

But it has to do with adventure, seeing beauty where you did not expect it, experiencing the holiness of nature, the profundity of immersion experiences, why you must push into places that others will not...and meeting fellow adventurers who "get" you along the way.

I hope to meet you along the way someday.

Much more on this to come.

Stay tuned.

Seize the day,
Perry
