In many change-resistant markets or fields, "marketing tactics" will get you nowhere.
In fact, they may get you banished to the backwoods.
Many conservative, good-old-boy, hidebound arenas hold marketing in contempt.
Either they feel it is "beneath" them or they feel it is deceptive, manipulative, or downright evil.
They feel their beloved and sacred ideas and institutions should be protected from such base influences.
If they get a whiff of "sales-i-ness" in your approach, their nostrils will flare and they'll turn their nose up at you.
You will not only NOT make progress, you may be excluded from playing in their little game at all.
Ever again.
I've seen experts make this fatal mistake many times.
They break the unwritten rules of the "game" and completely waste any and all progress they may have made up to that point.
It's not their ideas…it's not their proofi…it's not their arguments…it's not their motives.
It is simply that they have the stench of sales on them.
Many will sputter and fume, "But I don't want to play their silly games! My ideas are better! If they were rational they would listen to me!"
Good luck with that.
If you want to be a martyr and cynic and never make any progress, that's the correct attitude to have.
