Mel,
My brain likes to do the same things over and over.
Brains do. That's their default setting.
Brains like to masticate and mull over the same problems like a slow grinding mill.
If we let them.
I've learned over the years that I can't let mine do that.
I have to give my brain new experiences, I have to make it think in different ways. I have to force it to NOT chew over the same ideas over and over.
Example? Sure.
My brain works in very different ways when I'm writing compared to when I'm THINKING about writing.
Many of my best ideas for an email, a sales letter, a book, a manifesto, come NOT while I'm thinking about the piece, but WHILE I'M WRITING it.
I know that I'm not going to get that great idea until I sit down and start typing.
My brain kicks into a different gear. A different mode. New areas of my brain light up and start popping out ideas…areas that were dim and dumb while I was just "thinking" about what I'm going to write.
Traveling, building speakers, listening to classical music with my son, playing the drums, riding my bike, playing with my daughter…I "scramble my brain" in lots of ways.
One of my favorite "business" ways to do this is getting in a room with other brilliant people and working on my business.
Not only do I get new ideas from the people in the room…but MY BRAIN kicks into a whole new gear as well. I get better ideas in those rooms.
If I don't put myself in rooms like several times a year, my brain will just keep doing the same thing over and over. The "great idea areas" of my noggin will stay dark and snoozy.
When is the last time you "scrambled your brain" by getting in a room with other sharp entrepreneurs? Given everything that the modern world throws at us to keep us sedentary, separate and sedated, I'm guessing it may have been a while.
If that's true for you...it's time.
Join me in San Diego, get an answer to your toughest business challenge, and jump start your brain.
