Mel,
People who understand stories from ancient texts are much better prepared and have much better BS detectors than people who don't.
So for example, Ray Kurtzweil, 25 years ago, said when computers are smarter than people, we're gonna have a singularity, and we're gonna all upload ourselves to the cloud.
People who hail from a religious background understand: Yeah, well that's just a Christian rapture story, but you replaced God with Google, and heaven with the "cloud." It's the same story.
I'm a Christian and I do believe this in some sense, but I'm never going to fall for Ray Kurzweil's version!
The guy who wrote the book on Google Ads ain't gonna upload himself to Google and trust them to take care of our souls.
If we define Singularity as a time when you cannot determine what's gonna happen next based on what just happened, we're in a singularity NOW.
Listen to this story from Josh Pellicer…
I stumbled upon large language models early. I used AI to generate a video sales letter writer for myself. I used a client's niche data to generate a video sales letter, then sold it to them as a client gig, like I would normally write a VSL.
It was a good deal for around $25k, but I could've resold similar ones in other niches for a fraction of the time and cost.
After a month of work and delivering a letter that converted cold traffic in a competitive market, I went home overwhelmed with existential dread.
My edge was gone – it was only a matter of time. Because AI could now do in hours what used to take me weeks.
I curled up for an hour crying as my identity dissolved.
My personal value was at stake. Most people aren't willing to relinquish who they were before.
If you're an author, your identity will shift too – soon no one will know what that means. You'll have to explain you wrote things "back in the old days."
It's a spiritual transition of identity. Without the biggest possible identity, you're tossed around. To be steady, you must see beyond identity to your true value. That's why religion and spirituality are so powerful now.
Many are starry-eyed about AI and haven't contemplated identity. Those who have changed circumstances and seen the identity correlation will likely have an existential crisis.
Hopefully it's just reinventing yourself and not losing all income. It's hard enough changing who you are without going broke too.
The key is realizing identity comes from within, not skills or jobs. That spiritual view lets you ride the waves.
The Definitive AI Seminar starts tomorrow.
If you're in the US, you can still make it to Chicago in time to join us live in person.
But the live stream is also available!
