Mel,
Because of a trauma I suffered as a teen, I vowed, (for reasons I make clear in my next newsletter), to do something that cost me dearly when I hit my early forties.
I hit a midlife crisis. It was as though somebody had died and I wasn't quite sure who it was.
I was sad all the time.
For about six months I felt like the skin had been ripped off my chest and I was walking around with raw organs exposed.
All because of this childhood vow.
Here's my million-dollar advice for you today: There are feelings you're just going to have to feel.
You can't deflect them or medicate them unless you want to feel even more negative feelings with compound interest later on. You need to process those and go through them. Sometimes there are shortcuts and sometimes there are hacks… but sometimes there are none.
You just need to feel it, otherwise you cut yourself off from…well, everything. Your family, your friends, your success, yourself.
When I was plowing through the worst part of this, my mentor, Tom Hoobyar would tell me,
"Perry, when you get that stuff sorted out, your intuition is going to be sharper. Your perceptions are going to be clearer. Your discernment is going to be improved."
Tom was 100% right about all of it.
I am writing this month's newsletter to encourage you: A lot of people think that business and success and achieving your goals in life is all about technical skills and knowledge. But I think it's much more than about courage and emotional honesty and transparency.
The technical and business skills are secondary.
Clean up your room.
