Mel,
About 10 years ago, I held a seminar called "Rainmaker Alchemist." At the event, a guy I knew fairly well, but not really well, presented a rather expensive business opportunity.
Several attendees stroked him a big check. Seminar was a big success. We all went home to live happily ever after.
Or so we thought.
Naturally, the people who bought the program were supposed to get their stuff. And we were supposed to get our cut of the deal from this guy.
Weeks passed.
No delivery. No money. No replies to emails. Or replies with lame excuses.
Long story short. I lost a lot of money and I had to work my butt off to make it right to my customers who got screwed. (The full story appears in one of my newsletters).
What happened to the guy who sold the stuff and bailed? He was addicted to opioids.
It's the usual story of America's profoundly devastating and horrific opioid crisis…
Doctor prescribes Oxycontin for pain, the patient gets addicted, can't get enough from legal sources, turns to illegal sources, eventually turns to heroin, dies.
I don't think this guy ever got to the "heroin" stage. I believe he skipped that stage and went straight to the "dies" stage.
I don't know. I just know he's dead.
I used to think drug addicts were just morally weak. No will power. Bad people.
Not anymore. The older I get the more I realize we are all addicted.
It might be opioids, it might be sex, it might be work, it might be a person, it might be money, it might be friggin' Sudoku for crying out loud.
We're all addicted. Some addictions just kill you (physically) faster than others.
I believe the most powerful mentally, physically, financially and emotionally addictive thing on the planet is…
Your phone and the internet it enables you to access.
Doubt me at your own peril.
It may not lead you to bailing on your financial commitments, slipping into substance abuse, or death…but sometimes the most powerful addictions are the ones we don't know we have.
The best trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
